That Plant Lives off of What?

I recently went and bought a bunch of houseplants to keep inside my condo,  hopefully to make it look a little better (as I have absolutely NO decor), and maybe clean up the air and give it a fresh atmosphere inside.  (You ever smell chihuahua farts?).  I’m rather excited about it, mainly because that’s how pathetic my life is right now - that I get excited over getting some new plants for my house.

I was thinking about all those Batman cartoons I watched when I was young, where the character Poison Ivy trained her plants to attack people, and was thinking about how cool it would be to do that.  Ha ha – yeah, I know – a little weird, but that’s all you’ll find in my head all day long.  Random, odd, strange thoughts going off like crazy.  If any of you really knew what went on in my mind, you’d just stare at with me an odd look and go, “Huh?”.

Well – on to the point of the post which is probably another useless one like the more recent posts – (but hey, atleast I’ve posted eh!).  I was a browsing my Google Reader and came across an article about a certain type of plant, that gets it nutrients from – well – waste.  Poop.  Tree Shrews use the plant as a toilet, and the plant thrives on it.

[ LINK ]  Tropical pitcher plants are among the planet’s stranger species, digesting ants and other insects that slip and fall into their bowls.

But Nepenthes lowii, a pitcher plant found in Borneo, is stranger still. It gets its nutrition not from insects but from tree shrews, which use the plant as a toilet.

Hmm.  Interesting.

Now, just imagine if we were able to domesticate these plants.  Then imagine coming over to my house and I say, “excuse me, I need to go – you know – GO”.  Then I walk over to a plant in the corner and let it rip.  Or if a guest needed to go, and when they asked where the bathroom was, I pointed to the plant in the corner.

“Go ahead – I’ll look the other way”.

Swine Flu Origins Revealed

Apparently scientists have figured out where the Swine flu has come from, and how far back it started.

Whoopee do!

[ LINK ] ‘Using computational methods, developed over the last ten years at Oxford, we were able to reconstruct the origins and timescale of this new pandemic,’ said Dr Oliver Pybus of Oxford University’s Department of Zoology, an author of the paper. ‘Our results show that this strain has been circulating among pigs, possibly among multiple continents, for many years prior to its  transmission to humans.’

Cheney admits there was never any evidence tying Iraq, 9/11

Speaking of ‘The Cheney’, I forgot to post on his interview he did where he admitted that there was no evidence linking Iraq and 9/11 – NO DUH!

[ LINK ] In an interview with Fox News’ Greta van Susteren Monday, Cheney said there was no evidence tying Iraq and 9/11 — and that there never was.

“On the question of whether or not Iraq was involved in 9-11, there was never any evidence to prove that,” he told the Fox host. “There was “some reporting early on … but that was never borne out… [Former CIA Director] George [Tenet] … did say and did testify that there was an ongoing relationship between al-Qaeda and Iraq, but no proof that Iraq was involved in 9-11.”

Cheney’s comments are a marked shift from those he made in 2003. Pressed to disavow assertions that Iraq was in any way involved with the attacks, the then-VP claimed the administration was learning “more and more” about al Qaeda-Iraq ties.

Now, after 4,308 US servicemembers have lost their lives in Iraq, and no longer in office, the vociferous GOP hawk has appears to have changed his mind.

CIA Head Says Cheney Almost Wishing US Be Attacked

Oh boy – good ol’ Dick Cheney – the man who has made millions if not billions of the death of American civilians, and soldiers since 9/11 is at it again.  He’s against Obama in a lot of ways apparently, and seems to almost ‘wish’ the US would be attacked again just so he could say “told ya so”.  Sad when the head of the CIA is pointing you out.

Don’t get me started on Cheney, Bush, or any of those criminals – or even on the topic of 9/11.  I still have my views and you all ‘government believing’ people have yours, and it’ll never go anywhere from there.

[LINK] CIA Director Leon Panetta says former Vice President Dick Cheney’s criticism of the Obama administration’s approach to terrorism almost suggests “he’s wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point.”

Panetta told The New Yorker for an article in its June 22 issue that Cheney “smells some blood in the water” on the issue of national security.

Cheney has said in several interviews that he thinks Obama is making the U.S. less safe. He has been critical of Obama for ordering the closure of the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, halting enhanced interrogations of suspected terrorists and reversing other Bush administration initiatives he says helped to prevent attacks on the U.S.

Bike Tricks from 1899

Everyone has always said that this generation is crazy with their wild bike tricks, skateboarding, rollerblading and watersports… but this video from 1899 might explain where it first started.

Amazing Beat Boxing

This is insane!

How much sugar is in …

I came home today with a big Jamba Juice drink in my hand, slurping away.  I get them maybe 2-3 times a year – not very much at all.  But today happened to be one of those times where I was driving alone, felt the hunger bug and decided to grab one.  It was either a Jamba Juice, or a big whopper or something from burger king (which I rarely get too).

I got online and my friend Andy pointed me to a site called Sugar Stacks, where they take common items, and show you with a photograph, how much sugar you are actually eating.

Rather disgusting.

 Jamba Juice Sunrise Banana Berry
 16 oz drink
 Sugars, total: 59g
 Calories, total:	280
 Calories from sugar:	236

There is an example of a Jamba Juice shot.  Clearly showing you have many “sugar stacks” you are consuming.  I must say, that cup is much smaller than the size I got – so nearly double those figures for what I just got done drinking – blah. Not cool at all.

Everything is on that site (ok, not everything – just common stuff), from drinks, snacks, sauces, cookies, smoothies, and even fruit and vegetables.  It will tell you how much sugar you are consuming.  Go to the site and check it out, and thanks to Andy for the link.

SUGAR STACKS.

This one is for my Dad.. coke.. yikes.
