I did it.

I saw the movie that every young girl, and plenty of old ones, are freaking out over. The one that my girlfriend has been OBSESSED with, and dedicated her life to for the past year.

Twilight.

I’ve never been into the story. Never read the books. Never want to. But I said that I would go willingly to the movie with an open mind, and would be accepting to the idea that it might entertain me. So the time finally came for that moment, and I went along to see the movie - it was hard - but I went anyways. (I’m such a grumpy old fart. The kind that is always yelling at kids to get off the lawn). I was there more to show some form of support to the girlfriend even though I was already in trouble. I’ve given her such a hard time for being an obsessed screaming fangirl over a book the past year and sometimes the level of annoyance and frustration I’ve obtained over it hasn’t made me the nicest person when it comes to the topic of Twilight.

I have a HUGE problem with people’s mouth noises. You know, when people are eating - the slurping noise, the swallowing noise, the sounds made from the mixture of saliva and food. The opening and closing of the lips when all those sounds are happening. I freaking HATE mouth noises! So much that I will down right tell a person off if it becomes too ridiculous using a dirty look, a stern face, and a rude comment like “Close your freaking mouth!”. I’ll murder someone to stop those noises. Well, Twilight became that irritation to me. But instead of one person chewing with their mouth open.. it was millions of people! I hated it!

But guess what - I have never once said in any form of voice, or media, that I’ve hated the story idea for the book/movie. A vampire love story. Whoopee doo. It’s been done before so many times over. I don’t think you can have a vampire story, without involving some kind of “forbidden love” as a main key point. It’s no new grand idea. And it’s fine that type of story is happening again for this generation. I’ve just become highly irritated with the extremely obsessive ‘fangirl’ type attitudes. And more importantly - those such said attitudes, that become forceful and aggressive opinions towards others in a way that can make someone else feel badly because they don’t agree to, or follow the same opinions and share the same obsessive lifesyle.

I’ve had no interest in reading the books. None at all. But I can’t count the times that I’ve been pressured into reading them by people using many ”techniques” including mockery, guilt tripping, and downright rudeness. Yes, I understand you love the books. Yes, I understand that it’s super important to you. And I also understand how you don’t understand, that I don’t love it like you do. It doesn’t make sense to you and for some reason the urge to recruit me into ‘the group’ kicks in. But I don’t need to be bothered with it everytime I see you. I’m not interested. The end. Goodbye. I love war movies, but I don’t recall one time where I’ve made a person sit down to watch them or treated a person differently because they didn’t want to. I don’t recall one time where I’ve pushed someone away that wanted to spend time with me, just so I could go hang out with other war movie buffs.

But hey, I’m glad books like Twilight came around. I said it before with Harry Potter. It got kids, teens, and people in general excited about reading. It’s becoming more socially acceptable again. It’s not such a goofy thing to be a person that reads books.

I guess the whole point of this was to tell you what I thought of the movie. I’m not going to be mean because I have no desire to. I just found myself to be very bored during the movie. It didn’t really entertain me at all. I honestly tried to follow the story, and get involved, but it just didn’t work. There must be something in my brain that is immune to those type of stories. It’s very much a chick flick. And yes, they throw an attempt at action and such in there, but it’s just not enough. They get started with it and by the time is brings in any interest, it’s already over and back to the lovey stuff. For the girls, it’d be a great movie. For me and the guys, not so much. I was honestly dissapointed because a part of me wanted it to be good, and for me, it just wasn’t.

Ok - let the anti-anti-Twilight bashings begin. You know where to comment. Go ahead and rant away at me.

Day Out to the Capitol

zach and I were out and about by ourselves yesterday and after I had dropped some pictures off to a client in Bountiful, we were driving back to Salt Lake and he saw the capitol building and wanted to go there. We walked around and went up and down the stairs, and basically all over. He seemed to have fun looking at it all but had more fun running through the left over snow that was outside on the grassy areas.

Today, protestors marched around the LDS temple in California against the LDS church’s involvement in the political decisions regarding gay rights. And now, there are more rallies being planned at other LDS temples, one being the Salt Lake temple.

This topic is sturring up a lot of conversation with the media, church members, and non church members. What are your thoughts?
